The Nigeria Police Force has disbursed over ₦20 million to families of police officers who lost their lives while serving in Borno State.

The Borno State Police Command confirmed that a total sum of ₦20,137,770.34 was released to nine beneficiaries under the Force’s Group Life Insurance Scheme. The funds were presented to the officers’ next-of-kin during a cheque handover ceremony held to support their education, healthcare, and overall welfare.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the command’s spokesperson, Nahum Daso, said the initiative reflects the Force’s commitment to caring for families of officers who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Finance and Administration, Ibrahim Sumaila, represented the Borno State Commissioner of Police, Naziru Abdulmajid, at the event. He conveyed a message from the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, reaffirming that the welfare of officers and their families remains a top priority of the Force leadership.

According to Sumaila, the Group Life Insurance Scheme demonstrates the Inspector-General’s resolve to ensure that families of fallen officers are not abandoned. He urged beneficiaries to make prudent use of the funds to improve their living conditions and secure the future of their dependents.

Speaking on behalf of the recipients, Mr. Modu Ishaku expressed gratitude to the Inspector-General and the police authorities for the financial support, assuring that the funds would be judiciously utilised.

The disbursement follows a similar exercise carried out in January 2026, when about ₦18.38 million was paid to nine other families of deceased officers. The Group Life Assurance Scheme continues to provide vital financial relief to bereaved police families across the country.
