The Nigeria Police Force has released fresh details regarding the whereabouts of N100 million cash that was previously linked to the son of the former Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, amid ongoing inquiries into alleged misconduct.
In a statement issued by Force Public Relations Officer ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, police authorities said the money in question was found during an investigation but was seized in line with legal procedures and has since been placed in an official government account pending further action.
According to the statement, the funds were not secretly hidden or diverted, and no member of the police leadership has been accused of unlawful possession of the cash. Instead, the force confirmed that the money was retrieved as part of a larger probe into undisclosed irregularities involving individuals connected to the case.
“The cash was recovered during lawful investigative activities and has been lodged with the appropriate government treasury,” the police spokesperson said, emphasising that the process is part of established legal practice and transparency protocols.
The clarification aims to address speculation circulating on social media and in some news reports suggesting impropriety or improper handling of the seized funds. Police officials assured the public that the matter is being handled within the ambit of the law, and that due process is being observed at every stage.
This announcement comes amid heightened public attention on accountability and transparency as security and anti-corruption agencies pursue various probes involving serving and former public officials.
While details of the broader investigation remain confidential, authorities reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that all recovered assets are properly accounted for and managed in accordance with financial regulations.
The force also reiterated that no formal charges have yet been filed in connection with this aspect of the ongoing inquiry, and that further updates will be communicated as the investigation progresses.
