The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a suspect linked to a robbery incident in which unsuspecting job seekers were lured to a fake interview and dispossessed of their valuables in the Magodo area of Lagos.

The arrest follows a viral video that surfaced last week, sparking widespread concern over the growing trend of sophisticated scams targeting job applicants. The video, shared on April 10 by an X user, showed several victims in distress, with some seen holding their heads as they recounted their ordeal.

In the footage, one of the victims warned Nigerians to be cautious when responding to job offers, especially those found online. She explained that what appeared to be a legitimate interview turned into a robbery operation, with participants losing phones, cash, and other personal belongings.

According to accounts from victims, the setup initially appeared credible and well-organised, with nothing suggesting foul play at the outset. However, during the process, applicants were reportedly asked to step out briefly. Upon returning, they discovered that their belongings had been stolen.

Confirming the development, the police said the case was officially reported at about 11:00 p.m. on April 9, 2026, and investigations commenced immediately. One suspect has since been taken into custody, while efforts are ongoing to track down other individuals believed to be involved in the crime.

The command assured the public that all those connected to the incident would be apprehended and brought to justice.

Authorities also used the opportunity to caution job seekers against falling victim to fraudulent schemes. They advised applicants to verify the authenticity of job offers through official company channels, avoid attending interviews at isolated or unfamiliar locations, and always inform trusted contacts before going for such engagements.

The police reiterated the need for vigilance, noting that scammers are increasingly adopting more convincing methods to exploit unsuspecting individuals.
