The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a suspect in connection with the death of fast rising singer, Adesina Afeez, popularly known as Destiny Boy.
The police disclosed that the case has been transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department for a thorough investigation.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Babaseyi Oluseyi, said the command had commenced a detailed probe into the circumstances surrounding the death of the 22 year old artiste.
According to the statement, one suspect is currently in custody while investigators continue efforts to unravel the events that led to the singer’s demise.
The death of Destiny Boy became public on Sunday after videos showing his body being moved to a mortuary circulated on social media, triggering widespread reactions and speculation among fans and members of the public.
Following the development, an associate of the late singer released a video urging the public to refrain from spreading unverified claims, stating that the artiste had been dealing with a private health challenge before his death.
Destiny Boy, born Afeez Adeshina, began his music career at an early age and became popular for blending Fuji elements with contemporary sounds. He gained prominence in 2019 after releasing a Fuji styled cover of Davido’s hit song, If, which attracted significant attention online.
He later released several songs including Lamba, One Transaction, Gbese, Billion Dollar, Mio Gbonkankan and Lowkey.
The late singer is survived by his partner, Iremide, and their child born in November 2024. The police said updates would be provided as investigations progress.
