Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Ondo State have arrested a suspect, Johnson Daniel, for allegedly stabbing his friend, Ariyo Amos Timilehin, to death in Owo, located in the Owo Local Government Area.
The tragic incident reportedly occurred following a disagreement between the two young men, who were said to be close associates and frequently seen together in their neighbourhood prior to the altercation.
According to preliminary findings by the police, the victim sustained fatal injuries after being allegedly stabbed during the dispute. He was immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo for medical attention but was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor.
The spokesperson of the Ondo State Police Command, Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Saturday in Akure, the state capital.
“The command has confirmed the arrest of a suspect in connection with the alleged murder of Ariyo Amos Timilehin following a violent altercation in Owo on March 6, 2026,” Jimoh said.
He explained that detectives were immediately deployed to the scene after the incident was reported. During the preliminary investigation, officers recovered a knife believed to have been used in the attack.
According to the police spokesperson, the suspect was apprehended shortly after the incident and taken into custody for questioning.
Jimoh further disclosed that the matter has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and possible prosecution.
“The victim was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Owo, where a medical doctor confirmed him dead on arrival. Police detectives visited the scene and recovered the knife suspected to have been used in the attack, while the suspect has been arrested,” he added.
The Ondo State Police Command expressed sympathy to the family of the deceased and condemned acts of violence resulting from personal disputes.
Authorities also urged residents to seek peaceful means of resolving disagreements and to avoid actions that could lead to the loss of lives. Police assured the public that the case would be thoroughly investigated to ensure justice is served.
