Operatives of the Airport Police Command have arrested a 24-year-old suspect, Precious Onudhona, in connection with an alleged romance scam involving N48.5 million. The suspect, a native of Delta State, was apprehended on February 2, 2026, while attempting to board a flight from Lagos to Asaba following what authorities described as actionable intelligence.
The arrest was confirmed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Adeola. He disclosed that the suspect was intercepted by officers of the Anti-Fraud Unit as part of ongoing efforts to prevent criminal elements from exploiting the aviation sector.
According to Adeola, preliminary investigations indicate that Onudhona became involved in fraudulent activities in 2023 after joining a syndicate specializing in romance-related scams. The group allegedly targeted unsuspecting victims through social media platforms, including Facebook and Instagram, using fabricated identities and deceptive narratives to solicit funds.
The police revealed that the suspect allegedly operated under the alias “Travis Kevin,” posing as a white American medical doctor to gain victims’ trust. He reportedly created a fake banking domain displaying fictitious account balances to persuade victims to send money, promising quick repayment. The funds were allegedly requested for feeding and medical supplies after he claimed to have sustained injuries in the line of duty. Payments were said to have been received primarily through cryptocurrency transactions.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Airport Police Command, CP Ogunbode Olufunke, directed that a comprehensive investigation be conducted to identify and apprehend other members of the syndicate. The suspect is expected to be transferred to the Interpol Section for further investigation and prosecution.
