The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has warned the faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Taminu Turaki that he and his allies are prepared for further legal confrontation if the group decides to approach the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

Wike issued the warning on Monday following a series of court victories recorded by his faction at the Court of Appeal of Nigeria in Abuja. The appellate court dismissed several appeals filed by the Turaki-led faction, which is reportedly aligned with Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo State.

The appeals were part of the ongoing internal dispute within the PDP over the legitimacy of decisions taken during the party’s 2025 national convention. The conflict has deepened divisions within the party and triggered multiple legal battles between the rival factions.

In its ruling on Monday, the Court of Appeal affirmed an earlier judgment delivered by the Federal High Court of Nigeria in Abuja on October 31, 2025. That ruling restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognizing the outcome of the PDP’s 2025 national convention.

The appellate court also dismissed nine separate appeals filed by the Turaki faction challenging the earlier decision. In addition, the court ordered the group to pay legal costs of N2 million for each case, bringing the total penalty to N18 million.

Reacting to the development, Wike described the verdict as a significant legal victory for his camp. He noted that the judgment could provide an opportunity for reconciliation within the party if all sides are willing to move forward.

According to him, continuing the legal dispute may further weaken the party at a time when unity is needed. However, he maintained that his faction is fully prepared to defend its position should the opposing group decide to challenge the rulings at the Supreme Court.

“Today’s judgment offers the PDP a chance to reconcile,” Wike said. “But if they insist on proceeding to the Supreme Court, we are ready to meet them there.”

The latest court decisions add another chapter to the prolonged leadership crisis within the PDP, which has continued to shape the party’s internal politics and legal battles ahead of future elections.
