Top opposition figures from the Peoples Democratic Party and the African Democratic Congress convened on Wednesday at the Abuja residence of former Senate President David Mark, in what insiders describe as a crucial strategy meeting ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The high-level gathering drew influential political leaders, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde. The meeting also featured key stakeholders from both parties, reflecting growing efforts to build a united opposition front.
Coordinating the PDP delegation was Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, alongside other senior figures within the party. By early evening, Mark’s residence had become a hub of intense political activity, with discussions reportedly centred on alliance-building and strategic positioning.
Among those present were former Attorney General of the Federation Abubakar Malami and several former governors, including Rotimi Amaechi, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Aminu Tambuwal, Peter Obi, and Babangida Aliyu.
Also in attendance were elder statesman Jerry Gana, PDP National Secretary Taofeeq Arapaja, ADC spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi, and PDP Publicity Secretary Ini Ememobong.
While details of the deliberations remain undisclosed, the calibre of attendees suggests that significant political negotiations are underway. Observers believe the meeting signals increasing momentum toward opposition realignment, as parties explore possible alliances to strengthen their chances in the next election cycle.
With shifting political dynamics and mounting pressure to consolidate forces, the outcome of the talks could play a decisive role in shaping Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of 2027.
