A wave of concern has swept through Bayelsa State following the reported collapse of Deputy Governor Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo at the Government House in Yenagoa on Thursday.

Witnesses said the incident occurred in the afternoon while the deputy governor was attending to official matters. According to sources within the Government House, Ewhrudjakpo suddenly slumped, prompting panic among aides, staff, and security personnel who immediately rushed to his aid.

He was first taken to the Emergency Unit of the Federal Medical Centre in Yenagoa. Medical sources disclosed that he was later transferred to the Intensive Care Unit for more comprehensive monitoring, although the exact cause of the collapse had not been officially disclosed as of press time.

A senior government official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the administration was awaiting further medical evaluation before issuing a formal statement. “We are concerned, but the medical team is managing the situation. The state will be briefed once doctors conclude their assessment,” the official added.

Although there was no public briefing from the Bayelsa State Government as of Thursday evening, the incident has heightened anxiety across the state, given Ewhrudjakpo’s prominent role in ongoing administrative activities.
