The Oyo State Police Command has apprehended ten suspected armed robbers in the Genesis Hotel area, Challenge, Ibadan, recovering stolen items valued at approximately ₦100 million.

Police spokesperson Olayinka Ayanlade disclosed the arrests in a statement on Sunday, naming the suspects as Mukaila Omorayo (48), Adekanbi Adesola (39), Ahmed Oderinlo (38), Samuel Omoseyin (53), Ramon Saheed (52), Monilola Ajayi (58), Akanbi Bisi (51), Wasilat Abdullahi (48), Bolaji Tanimola (51), and Adeola Oyesina (51).

According to Ayanlade, the command’s operatives acted on credible intelligence and conducted weeks of surveillance before successfully intercepting a notorious robbery syndicate at their hideout. The gang, known for hijacking containers at gunpoint and diverting valuable goods, operates across state lines.

Recovered items included 40 air conditioners, 10 washing machines, an electric motorcycle, assorted creams, seven cutting machines, 15 packs of LED lights, 25 packs of furniture gum, numerous trailer spare parts, women’s hair relaxers, wigs, chin chin, furniture, and painters’ materials. The total value of these exhibits is estimated at ₦100 million.

The suspects have confessed to their roles in the criminal activities and are cooperating with ongoing investigations to apprehend other members still at large.

State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Abimbola, praised the operatives for their professionalism and resilience. He also thanked the public for providing credible intelligence, which has been instrumental in preventing and detecting crime. The CP urged continued public support and partnership with law enforcement to enhance safety and security.

He further advised hotel operators to assist the police by reporting suspicious activities, noting that criminal elements often use hotels as bases for planning and executing crimes. The management of the Genesis Hotel has been invited for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.

The command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property, warning residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. The suspects are expected to be charged in court upon conclusion of investigations.
