Former Osun State Governor and current Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyebamiji, has declared his intention to unseat Governor Ademola Adeleke in the next governorship election, setting the stage for a high-stakes political contest in the state.

Speaking to party leaders and supporters in Osogbo, Oyebamiji said the All Progressives Congress remains confident of reclaiming Osun, insisting that the party has learnt valuable lessons from the last election cycle. He accused the current administration of failing to meet public expectations in governance, infrastructure delivery, and job creation.

Oyebamiji described his potential candidacy as a continuation of what he termed “unfinished business” in Osun, adding that the APC would present a more inclusive and development-driven agenda to voters. He also called on party members to avoid internal divisions, warning that disunity had previously cost the party electoral victories.

Political analysts say the declaration signals an early start to intense politicking in Osun, with both camps expected to mobilise resources and grassroots structures ahead of the polls. The Peoples Democratic Party, meanwhile, has dismissed Oyebamiji’s comments as premature, insisting that Governor Adeleke’s performance will speak for itself at the ballot.
