Galatasaray’s Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen has suffered a right arm fracture during the club’s Champions League clash against Liverpool, while Dutch international Noa Lang is set to undergo surgery on his thumb, the Turkish side confirmed on Thursday.
According to Galatasaray, Osimhen “suffered a fracture to his right forearm, which has been put in a cast.” The club added that “the decision regarding surgery will be made in the coming days after further examinations.” The club did not specify how long the star striker, who has scored seven goals in this season’s Champions League, will be sidelined.
Lang, who came on at halftime to replace Osimhen, was forced to leave the pitch ten minutes from the end of the game after sustaining a cut on his right thumb. The injury occurred when he made contact with an advertising hoarding behind Liverpool’s goal line. Galatasaray confirmed that Lang “suffered a serious cut to his right thumb and is due to undergo surgery in Liverpool in the coming hours.”
The injuries came during Liverpool’s 4-0 victory over Galatasaray at Anfield on Wednesday, which secured the Reds’ progression to the quarter-finals with a 4-1 aggregate score. Liverpool will face reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain in the next round.
Osimhen has been a key figure for Galatasaray this season, particularly in the Champions League, where his scoring prowess has been vital for the club’s campaign. His absence, depending on the recovery period, could pose a significant challenge for the team as they prepare for domestic and European fixtures.
Meanwhile, Lang’s injury adds to the team’s current setbacks, forcing Galatasaray to adjust their lineup in upcoming matches. Club officials and medical staff are expected to monitor both players closely, with treatment and rehabilitation plans to be finalized after further medical evaluations.
The Turkish club has expressed hope for a swift recovery for both players, emphasizing that their health and fitness remain a top priority as the season enters its critical stages, both in domestic competitions and the Champions League.
