The Ogun State Government has held a strategic security meeting with Fulani leaders, security agencies and other key stakeholders as part of efforts to reinforce peace and prevent potential security threats across the state.
The meeting took place in Abeokuta and was convened by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, Olusola Subair, a retired Assistant Inspector General of Police. It brought together security service chiefs, security consultants, representatives of local government chairmen, traditional Fulani leaders known as Serikis, and members of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria.
Speaking during the meeting, Subair stressed the importance of proactive engagement and collaboration between communities and security institutions in maintaining stability across the state. According to him, effective security management requires a strong partnership between government authorities, security agencies and community leaders.
He noted that vigilance and cooperation remain critical in preventing security threats and preserving the peaceful atmosphere currently enjoyed in the state. Subair assured participants that the state government would continue to strengthen cooperation with relevant stakeholders to ensure that peace, trust and mutual understanding remain the foundation of coexistence among different groups.
The meeting also served as a platform for open dialogue on ways to deepen collaboration between security agencies and community leaders in addressing emerging security concerns.
Fulani leaders present at the gathering reaffirmed their commitment to peaceful coexistence with host communities and pledged to support efforts aimed at preventing criminal elements from infiltrating their settlements.
The South-West Chairman of Miyetti Allah, Muhammad Kabir Labar, and the group’s National Coordinator, Abdul Mumuni Ibrahim, assured the state government that their members were ready to work closely with security agencies to maintain peace and stability.
At the end of the meeting, stakeholders agreed on several measures to improve security coordination across the state. These include strengthening vigilance at the community level, promoting grassroots engagement, improving cooperation between security agencies and residents, and sustaining dialogue among stakeholders.
Residents were also encouraged to support security efforts by reporting suspicious activities through official channels, including the Ogun State Police Command’s Gateway Shield mobile application and designated emergency lines.
Participants concluded the meeting by reaffirming their collective commitment to sustained collaboration aimed at maintaining peace, building trust among communities and ensuring that Ogun State remains safe for residents and businesses.
