The Ogun State Government has clarified claims circulating online regarding the case against Abass Olalekan, a Local Government Inspector (LGI) with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Abeokuta South.

Mr. Olalekan was arraigned on March 23, 2026, before Magistrate Court 1 in Isabo, Abeokuta, on a two-count charge. He was subsequently granted bail, a decision the government says has been widely misunderstood in public commentary.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwasina Ogungbade (SAN), clarified that bail was granted solely due to the bailable nature of the charges and should not be interpreted as reflecting the strength or quality of the evidence.

The Attorney-General’s office confirmed it has now taken over the prosecution of the case after receiving the file from the State Police Command. The charges reportedly stem from police investigations alleging that Mr. Olalekan was involved with the deceased, Victoria Olapeju Ariyo, who was said to be pregnant at the time of her death.

The investigation further claims that Mr. Olalekan encouraged the termination of the pregnancy, recommended someone to perform the procedure, and provided financial support. The deceased allegedly died following the procedure.

The Ogun State Government described online claims questioning the credibility of evidence and alleging missing witnesses as “false and misleading,” emphasizing that the case remains at an early stage. It noted that matters relating to evidence and witnesses would be resolved during the trial.

The Attorney-General cautioned the public and media against speculation that could erode confidence in the judicial process, urging them to allow the court proceedings to take their course. He reiterated that unverified information circulating online should be disregarded.

The government’s statement underscores the commitment of the Ogun State Ministry of Justice to ensuring a transparent and fair trial while maintaining the integrity of the legal process.
