Governor Usman Ododo has officially handed over the construction of a multi-billion-naira international airport project to contractors, marking a significant step in the state’s infrastructure development drive.
The handover ceremony, held on Wednesday, was conducted on behalf of the governor by the State Commissioner for Transportation, Victor Atuluku. He described the airport as a transformative, people-oriented initiative designed to unlock Kogi State’s economic potential and position it as a key hub for trade, investment, and industrial expansion.
According to the governor, the project is expected to stimulate both local and international investments, create employment opportunities across various sectors, and boost the overall socio-economic profile of the state. He emphasised that the airport goes beyond aviation infrastructure, serving as a strategic tool for economic diversification and long-term growth.
Ododo reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring the timely completion of the project, pledging to mobilise the necessary human and material resources to meet set deadlines. He noted that the development would attract multinational corporations, investors, and business interests while also creating opportunities for small-scale enterprises and local artisans.
The project has been awarded to China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation and Gamji Construction Company, both tasked with delivering the airport in line with international standards. The governor urged the contractors to maintain professionalism, adhere strictly to specifications, and work efficiently to ensure quality execution.
He also appealed to residents and host communities to support the project, stressing the importance of cooperation in achieving a smooth and conflict-free construction process.
Reassuring potential investors, Ododo stated that his administration remains committed to maintaining security across the state, noting that a stable environment is essential for sustainable development.
The official handover signals a major milestone in Kogi State’s infrastructure agenda, underscoring the government’s determination to implement projects that will enhance economic growth, improve connectivity, and elevate the standard of living for its citizens.
