Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has issued a stern warning to Nigerian social media personality Lege Miami after the actor launched an abusive rant at members of the national team.
The backlash follows Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a penalty shootout defeat to DR Congo on Sunday. Despite starting their playoff campaign with a win against Gabon, the Super Eagles produced a poor performance in the second game, ending hopes of a World Cup appearance for the second consecutive edition.
Amid widespread public frustration, Lege Miami posted a video on Instagram on Monday in which he hurled insults at several players and their families. He also referenced Nwabali’s late parents, a remark that triggered strong reactions online.
Nwabali responded via Instagram, warning Lege Miami to stop invoking his father’s name in his content.
“Remove my late dad’s name from your mouth if you’re doing your content,” he wrote. “If you don’t respect people’s dad, you should learn to respect the dead. I’m not your regular type of footballer. I go beat you mercilessly. You’re free to insult me, but remove my late dad’s name from your mouth.”
With World Cup qualification now out of reach, Nwabali and the Super Eagles will shift their attention to preparations for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, which begins next month.
