The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Chapter, has directed its members to embark on an indefinite strike beginning Tuesday, January 27, 2026, in solidarity with the ongoing industrial action by workers of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).

The decision was announced in a communique jointly signed by the NULGE FCT Chapter President, Mr Ibrahim Kabi, and the Secretary, Mr Sa’ad Abdulmumini, following an emergency meeting of the State Executive Council (SEC) held on Monday in Abuja.

According to the union, the directive aligns with calls by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) as well as instructions from NULGE’s national leadership. The FCT chapter explained that it resolved to join the strike because the issues raised by the Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC) of the FCTA directly affect staff of the six Area Councils in the territory.

The communique cited unresolved issues such as unpaid entitlements and outstanding promotion arrears, which it said have continued to negatively impact the welfare of local government workers. It directed all NULGE members across the six Area Councils to withdraw their services with effect from January 27, 2026.

The union noted that the strike would also serve as a platform to press home pending demands currently under negotiation between the FCT Minister and a ministerial committee. It urged members to remain united and resolute, stressing that industrial action became necessary after all other avenues were exhausted.

Meanwhile, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that FCTA workers under the umbrella of JUAC commenced an indefinite strike on January 19 over unresolved welfare concerns. NAN also reports that the National Industrial Court issued an interlocutory injunction halting the strike following an application filed by the FCT Minister, Mr Nyesom Wike, an order granted by Justice E. D. Subilim on January 21.
