The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed as false a viral message warning of an imminent cult clash in parts of the state, assuring residents there is no cause for panic.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the Command said it had nonetheless intensified security presence in the affected areas, including Shitta, Akerele, Itire/Aguda, and the Ishaga axis, to prevent any possible breakdown of law and order.
The statement explained that proactive measures were immediately implemented following initial reports, with the deployment of personnel and operational assets to the identified locations and surrounding communities.
According to the Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, sustained patrols, strategic positioning of officers, and increased visibility policing have been ordered across key flashpoints to ensure public safety.
“The areas are well secured, and adequate security coverage has been emplaced to deter any unlawful gatherings or activities,” the statement noted.
The Command reassured residents that they can go about their daily activities without fear, adding that officers, in collaboration with other security agencies, remain fully deployed to maintain peace and order.
It also cautioned against the spread of unverified information capable of causing unnecessary panic, urging the public to rely only on credible and official sources of information.
Residents were further advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station or through designated emergency lines.
The police reiterated their commitment to safeguarding lives and property, stressing that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure continued peace and security across Lagos State.
