The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited NNPCL has signed a strategic agreement aimed at strengthening domestic energy infrastructure, reinforcing efforts to improve power generation and energy security. The announcement coincides with confirmation that the Niger Delta Power Holding Company NDPHC has completed a comprehensive risk engineering survey at the Omotosho and Sapele power plants.

NNPCL officials described the pact as part of a broader strategy to enhance gas supply reliability and optimise energy value chains. The agreement is expected to facilitate infrastructure upgrades, streamline operational coordination, and improve transmission capacity.

Energy experts note that infrastructure bottlenecks have long constrained Nigeria power sector performance. They argue that coordinated investment across gas production, transportation, and electricity generation is critical to achieving stable supply.

Meanwhile, NDPHC stated that the completed risk engineering assessment at Omotosho and Sapele plants will guide maintenance planning and reduce operational vulnerabilities. The survey reportedly identified areas requiring technical reinforcement to improve efficiency and prevent outages.

Industry analysts say such preventive evaluations are essential for ensuring plant longevity and minimising disruptions. They emphasise that effective risk management contributes to investor confidence and long term sustainability.

Government representatives reiterated commitment to expanding domestic energy access. They stressed that partnerships between energy agencies will accelerate reforms and strengthen infrastructure resilience.

As Nigeria continues to address persistent power shortages, coordinated efforts between NNPCL and NDPHC signal renewed focus on integrated solutions within the energy sector.
