The trial of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu, continues before Justice James Omotosho, with no verdict yet delivered on the first count of his seven-count terrorism charge.

Count 1 alleges that Kanu, through broadcasts and statements, incited violence and intimidated the public, a charge under Section 1(2)(b) of the Terrorism (Prevention) Amendment Act. The Department of State Services (DSS) presented evidence claiming that Kanu operated an illegal radio station and incited members of the public against security personnel.

Kanu has pleaded not guilty to all charges and has submitted a “no-case-to-answer” application, arguing that the prosecution has not established a prima facie case against him. The court has allowed both the defense and prosecution to submit written briefs before ruling.

IPOB has dismissed some media reports surrounding the trial, describing certain narratives as misleading. Observers say the trial remains one of the most closely watched legal proceedings in Nigeria, with significant national attention.

The court is expected to deliver rulings in the coming weeks.
