Detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, has been relocated from Abuja to a correctional facility in Sokoto State, according to reliable security sources familiar with the development.
The transfer, carried out under heavy security, is said to be part of a new arrangement by authorities to enhance security management around Kanu’s detention following recent tensions and protests linked to his ongoing trial.
Sources revealed that the move was approved after intelligence assessments indicated the need to decongest sensitive detention centres and reduce pressure on security operatives in the Federal Capital Territory.
Kanu, who has been in prolonged detention facing charges bordering on terrorism, treasonable felony, and incitement, was reportedly moved at dawn in a discreet operation involving multiple security agencies.
The Department of State Services (DSS) is yet to issue an official statement on the transfer, though insiders say the decision is also aimed at preventing further disruptions around court appearances and managing emerging security risks.
The relocation has sparked immediate reactions from supporters, with many expressing concerns over his safety and access to legal counsel. Kanu’s lawyers are expected to request clarification from the Federal Government regarding the circumstances surrounding the transfer.
More details are expected as authorities prepare an official briefing.
