The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has projected a mix of haze, sunshine and isolated thunderstorms across the country from Wednesday to Friday.
In its weather outlook released on Tuesday in Abuja, NiMet said northern parts of the country would experience predominantly sunny and hazy conditions throughout the three day period. The agency added that dust haze would become more pronounced in some areas as the days progress.
For the southern region, NiMet predicted generally sunny conditions with patches of cloud cover. However, it noted that isolated thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall are expected later in the day over parts of Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross River states.
The agency stated that on Thursday, sunny and hazy skies would persist over the northern and central regions. In the south, it forecast sunny conditions with cloud patches, alongside morning thunderstorms and light rainfall over parts of Ogun, Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Cross River states.
According to the outlook, additional thunderstorms are expected later in the day across Ondo, Ogun, Imo, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers and Bayelsa states.
NiMet further disclosed that on Friday, northern states are likely to experience sunny and hazy skies in the morning, followed by dust haze during the afternoon and evening hours. The central region is also expected to remain sunny and hazy throughout the day.
For the southern region, the agency projected cloudy skies with sunny intervals in the morning, with chances of isolated thunderstorms and light rainfall over parts of Anambra, Imo, Abia, Edo, Bayelsa, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Rivers states.
NiMet warned that dust particles remain in suspension over parts of the North Central region and advised residents to take necessary health precautions. It cautioned people with asthma and other respiratory conditions to be especially mindful of the prevailing weather situation.
The agency also urged motorists to exercise caution while driving during rainfall, noting that reduced visibility could pose risks. Airline operators were advised to obtain airport specific weather reports from NiMet to support effective flight planning.
