IKANG — Troops of the 13 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have rescued eight civilians, including two minors, who were abducted along the Ikang–Cameroon waterways in Cross River State.
The rescue was conducted by personnel from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Ikang following credible intelligence that militants had intercepted a commercial boat and kidnapped its passengers.
The operation was announced on Tuesday in a statement issued by Major Yemi Sokoya, Assistant Director, Army Public Relations.
Rapid Response Forces Kidnappers to Abandon Victims
Upon receiving the distress alert, troops were deployed to the area, where they blocked escape routes and secured the waterways.
“As a result of the rapid response, the militants abandoned the victims at Ini-Abasi Fishing Port and fled into nearby creeks and towards the high seas,” Major Sokoya stated.
All victims were safely recovered, documented, and released without injury. No casualties were recorded during the operation.
Army Commends Local Intelligence Support
Commander of the 13 Brigade, Brigadier General P.O. Alimikhena, praised troops for their professionalism and expressed appreciation to local residents whose timely intelligence enabled the successful rescue.
He assured the public that aggressive patrols and security operations will continue across the waterways to deter further criminal activity, urging citizens to support security agencies with credible information.
