Troops of the Nigerian Army have recorded another major breakthrough in the fight against terrorism, neutralising 11 terrorists during a clearance operation in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
According to a military briefing released on Sunday, the operation targeted a notorious cell responsible for attacks on rural communities and travellers along the Sokoto–Katsina corridor. The troops reportedly acted on credible intelligence, storming the terrorists’ hideout and engaging in a fierce gun duel that lasted several hours.
Recovered items included assault rifles, ammunition, motorcycles, communication devices, and other logistics materials used by the terrorists. The Army confirmed that no troop casualties were recorded.
Military authorities reiterated their commitment to intensifying operations across the North-West, stressing that recent offensives have significantly weakened multiple terror groups in the region. Residents of Sabon Birni, one of the hardest-hit communities in Sokoto, welcomed the development and called for sustained presence of security forces.
The operation forms part of the expanded counterterrorism strategy ordered by the Defence Headquarters to curb escalating bandit attacks and restore safety in frontline states.
