Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has said the country will soon reach a level of prosperity where it can lend money to other nations. She spoke on Sunday in Ile-Ife, Osun State, after being conferred with the chieftaincy title of Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua during the 10th coronation anniversary of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi.
Senator Tinubu described the event as a moment to celebrate the Yoruba heritage and said, “By 2026, Nigeria will be in prosperity; we will be lending to other nations. Those wondering how, we will show them.” She noted that the milestone would occur during President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
The event drew notable dignitaries including ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, the wife of the Vice President Nana Shettima, ex-First Lady Patience Jonathan, governors from Lagos, Osun, and Ogun States, former Speaker Dimeji Bankole, and other political leaders. Traditional rulers such as the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, the Orangun of Ila, Oba Abdulwahab Oyedotun, and the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Olaoye, were also present.
Oba Ogunwusi praised Mrs Tinubu for her continuous support, while Governor Ademola Adeleke highlighted his government’s infrastructure projects in Ile-Ife, including 14 completed roads and the first flyover in the city. Adeleke said the projects align with the vision of strengthening Ile-Ife as the cultural capital of the Yoruba people.
