Nigeria has commenced a new sports administration training programme aimed at strengthening management capacity across the country’s sports sector. The initiative, organised by the Nigerian Olympic Committee (NOC) in partnership with Olympic Solidarity, Dynaspro Sports and Sunshine School, opened on Monday at Sunshine School, Ibadan.
The three-day Sports Administration Course targets elected officials of sports bodies, staff of National Olympic Committees, federation administrators, club managers, physical education teachers, sports journalists and other professionals involved in sports development. It is also designed for sports directors, department heads, marketing personnel and games coordinators.
Participants, who arrived on Monday and will depart on Friday, are being trained using the Olympic Solidarity framework and manual. The programme covers the Olympic Movement, governance principles, organisational management and athlete-centred support systems.
President of Sunshine School, Dr. Temitayo Williams, said the institution is proud to host the programme, adding that it aligns with efforts to meet global standards in sports administration and create opportunities for students to develop their sporting abilities.
NOC President, Engineer Habu Gumel, welcomed the collaboration, stating that expanding Olympic education and enhancing the skills of sports administrators remain key priorities for the committee. He highlighted the need for continuous capacity building across the sector.
The training is being conducted in both physical and virtual formats, led by IOC-certified national course directors Mr. Nweri Emmanuel and Dr. Esther Aluko. They are supported by project officer Mrs. Deborah Chidobi and several guest speakers, including NOC programme director, Professor Fasan Clement.
