The House of Representatives has expressed strong approval of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation’s (NDIC) performance in executing its 2025 budget, commending the agency for achieving an impressive 97 per cent implementation rate.
At a plenary session in Abuja, lawmakers described the NDIC’s budget performance as a model of fiscal discipline and strategic planning, noting that the near-complete budget execution reflects efficiency and commitment to statutory responsibilities. According to records presented to the House, the Corporation achieved significant milestones in financial management and operational delivery during the 2025 fiscal year.
Chairman of the House Committee on Finance, who spoke on behalf of the chamber, highlighted that the NDIC’s performance demonstrates how government agencies can responsibly discharge their mandates while optimising resource utilisation. “We are pleased with the NDIC’s stewardship of its 2025 budget and commend its management for the disciplined approach that produced these results,” the lawmaker said.
Established to protect depositors and promote financial system stability, the NDIC plays a strategic role in strengthening confidence in Nigeria’s banking sector. The Corporation’s responsibilities include insuring depositors’ funds, resolving failed banks, and conducting research on financial safety nets.
Lawmakers pointed out that the implementation rate was achieved despite challenging macroeconomic conditions and fiscal pressures experienced across the public sector. The House also noted that the NDIC maintained transparency in its reporting and accountability processes, which contributed to the positive evaluation.
In response, officials from the NDIC expressed gratitude for the recognition and reiterated their commitment to sustaining prudent financial management practices. They said the Corporation will continue to align its programmes and resource deployment with national financial stability goals.
The House’s commendation of the NDIC follows growing calls for enhanced oversight and performance measurement within government agencies, as stakeholders increasingly advocate for result-oriented governance.
As conversations on budget credibility and accountability deepen, the NDIC’s achievement is being viewed as a milestone that could set a benchmark for other parastatals and regulatory bodies in achieving efficient budget implementation.
