Former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has confirmed that he has been invited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and has pledged to honour the summons.
Malami disclosed this in a statement posted on his verified Facebook page on Friday, where he described himself as a law abiding citizen committed to accountability, transparency and responsible public service.
He stated that he considered it necessary to make the development public in line with his long standing advocacy for openness in governance. According to him, his decision to honour the invitation reflects his respect for due process and the rule of law.
Malami assured Nigerians that he would cooperate fully with the anti graft agency and promised to keep the public informed as developments unfold.
The former minister served as Nigeria’s Attorney General and Minister of Justice from 2015 to 2023 under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari. During his tenure, he played a central role in several high profile legal, political and financial matters that shaped key government policies within the period.
His time in office was marked by major asset recovery efforts, legal battles across different courts, anti corruption initiatives and sensitive international arbitration disputes involving the Federal Government.
In the later years of his service, Malami came under public scrutiny over issues bordering on asset declarations, contract approvals and the handling of recovered funds. He, however, consistently denied all allegations and insisted that his actions were carried out in line with the law.
