The Lagos State Police Command has taken disciplinary action against several officers accused of misconduct after a viral video surfaced online showing operatives allegedly harassing young people in the Ojuelegba area.
In a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, it was confirmed that the officers seen in the footage have been identified and brought in for questioning. Their statements have already been recorded as part of an ongoing internal investigation. The video, which circulated widely on X (formerly Twitter), reportedly captured members of the Anti-Cultism Squad confronting youths at the Ojuelegba Under Bridge. In the footage, the officers were alleged to have intimidated the individuals and seized their mobile phones, sparking public outrage and calls for accountability.
According to the police spokesperson, the command has also reached out to the individual who shared the video and made the complaint. The complainant is expected to appear before the authorities to provide a formal statement that will support the investigation process.
The police leadership has reiterated its commitment to transparency and professionalism, assuring the public that the case will be handled thoroughly. The spokesperson emphasized that the command maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy towards misconduct and unprofessional behavior among its personnel.
She further stated that any officer found guilty of wrongdoing would face appropriate disciplinary measures in line with established laws and regulations. The command also promised to make the outcome of the investigation known to the public once the process is concluded.
This development highlights the growing influence of social media in exposing alleged abuses of power, as well as the increasing demand for accountability within law enforcement agencies.
