The Lagos State Government has announced plans to deploy an additional 500 personnel of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) across major roads and key corridors ahead of President Bola Tinubu’s visit scheduled for April 8 and 9.
Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, disclosed the move during a press briefing on preparations for the President’s visit, which will feature the inauguration of major projects executed by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration. He explained that the deployment is part of a broader strategy to ensure smooth traffic flow, strengthen security, and minimise disruption to residents.
Omotoso said the state government is collaborating with federal and local agencies to ensure a seamless and secure visit. He noted that comprehensive arrangements covering logistics, traffic control, and security have been put in place to maintain order while allowing residents to go about their daily activities with minimal inconvenience.
He urged Lagosians to cooperate fully with authorities, comply with traffic advisories, and adhere to security guidelines that will be announced ahead of the visit, stressing that public support is crucial to the success of the event.
Also speaking, LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, confirmed that the additional officers would be strategically stationed along major routes and project locations to effectively manage vehicular movement. He added that the deployment forms part of an inter-agency traffic management plan aimed at ensuring a hitch-free visit.
Bakare-Oki noted that the agency would intensify monitoring and enforcement on affected routes, while alternative traffic arrangements would be communicated in advance. He appealed to motorists to obey traffic officials and cooperate with any temporary diversions introduced during the two-day engagement.
During the visit, President Tinubu is expected to inaugurate several landmark projects, including the Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge, the Lagos State Geographic Information Service Building, the Alausa Multi-Agency Complex, the Tolu Schools Complex in Ajegunle, and the Mid-Level Agro-Produce Hub in Abijo, Ibeju-Lekki.
Omotoso said the projects reflect the administration’s commitment to improving infrastructure, boosting mobility, enhancing education, and strengthening public service delivery across the state.
