The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command, has arrested 12 suspected illegal immigrants from Mali in Ilorin, the state capital.
The suspects were apprehended in the Akerebiata area of Ilorin following credible intelligence provided by residents. According to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASC 1 Ayoola Michael Shola, the individuals were allegedly occupying a two-bedroom apartment rented through a local agent under suspicious circumstances.
Security operatives recovered nine mobile phones, two international passports, identification cards, cash, a wristwatch, keys, and other personal belongings during the operation.
Kwara State NSCDC Commandant, Bala Bodinga, confirmed that a comprehensive investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the suspects’ presence in the state. He stated that authorities are working to establish whether the individuals have any criminal affiliations or unlawful intentions.
The Commandant added that upon conclusion of investigations, the suspects would be handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service for further action in accordance with existing immigration laws.
He emphasized that the arrest comes amid heightened security concerns across Kwara State, stressing that the Command will not allow the state to serve as a safe haven for criminal elements.
Bodinga also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to enhance community safety and strengthen ongoing security operations across the state.
