Kwara Killings FG Launches Relief And Security Operations As Shettima Visits
The Federal Government has launched emergency relief and security operations in Kwara State following recent violent attacks that left many residents dead and displaced. Vice President Kashim Shettima visited affected communities to assess the situation and reassure citizens of the government’s commitment to restoring peace.
During the visit, Shettima met with traditional rulers, local officials, and security commanders. He described the killings as tragic and unacceptable, promising swift action to prevent further violence and bring perpetrators to justice.
Relief materials including food supplies, medical support, and temporary shelter assistance have been deployed to affected areas. Officials from the National Emergency Management Agency said the intervention aims to ease the suffering of displaced families while longer term recovery plans are developed.
Security reinforcements have also been sent to the region. Military and police units are conducting joint patrols and intelligence driven operations to track down those responsible for the attacks. Authorities say surveillance and community engagement efforts are being intensified.
Community leaders have welcomed the federal response but stressed the need for sustained security presence. They noted that fear remains high among residents, with many hesitant to return to their farms and homes.
Shettima urged locals to cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information. He also emphasized the importance of unity and dialogue in addressing the root causes of conflict.
Analysts say the federal intervention reflects growing concern over rural insecurity in parts of the country. They argue that beyond immediate relief, long term solutions must include better intelligence, economic support for vulnerable communities, and improved coordination among security agencies.
