Senator Garba Maidoki has said authorities now have a “fair idea” of the location of the schoolgirls abducted from Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State. The senator expressed confidence that the students remain within the Kebbi South Senatorial District and that efforts to rescue them are progressing.
Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, Maidoki said he is “highly hopeful” that the girls will be rescued soon, noting that security agencies have intensified search operations across identified hideouts. He suggested that the rescue could happen “within one or two days,” based on information available to him.
The school was attacked earlier in the week by armed men who killed the vice principal and abducted about 25 schoolgirls during a late-night raid. The incident has drawn nationwide condemnation and renewed concerns over student safety in northern Nigeria.
Following the abduction, the Federal Government directed security agencies to prioritise the rescue mission, while the Senate ordered a probe into the utilisation of the Safe School Fund, questioning why schools remain exposed despite previous allocations.
The Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) and other community groups have also called for urgent action to secure the immediate release of the abducted students.
Security operations and negotiations are ongoing, as the nation awaits the safe return of the girls.
