The Katsina State Government has announced the immediate closure of all public primary and secondary schools across the state in response to rising security threats.
The directive, issued on Saturday through the Ministry of Education, comes amid fresh intelligence reports indicating possible attacks on schools by bandits who have intensified operations in several parts of the North-West.
Authorities say the shutdown is a preventive safety measure aimed at protecting schoolchildren, teachers, and school facilities while security agencies intensify operations to curb the escalating violence.
According to the statement, all school administrators have been instructed to evacuate students, secure school properties, and comply strictly with the government’s directive pending further instructions.
“The safety of our pupils and staff is paramount,” the Ministry said. “All public primary and secondary schools are hereby closed until further notice. Government is working closely with security agencies to restore normalcy.”
The development has sparked mixed reactions across the state. Many parents welcomed the decision as necessary under the present circumstances, while others expressed concern about the academic disruption, especially with examinations approaching.
Security forces have reportedly been placed on heightened alert, with surveillance increased around major school zones, highways, and communities considered vulnerable.
The state government assured residents that schools would reopen only after a thorough security assessment confirms that the learning environment is safe.
