Former United States Vice President Kamala Harris has accused President Donald Trump of steering the country toward a war with Iran that she says lacks public support and risks destabilising global security.

In a statement posted Sunday on her X platform, Harris warned that the United States was being drawn into what she described as a potential “regime-change war,” cautioning that such a move could endanger American service members and undermine the nation’s international standing.

“Donald Trump is dragging the United States into a war the American people do not want,” she said, arguing that U.S. troops were being placed in harm’s way “for the sake of Trump’s war of choice.”

Harris characterised the possible conflict as “a dangerous and unnecessary gamble with American lives,” adding that it could inflame tensions across the Middle East and weaken America’s diplomatic leverage globally. She contended that the administration’s posture reflects “recklessness dressed up as resolve,” rather than calculated strength.

While acknowledging what she described as Iran’s ongoing threat and maintaining that Tehran must never acquire nuclear weapons, Harris argued that military escalation is not the appropriate solution. She criticised Trump’s previous assertions about ending foreign wars and dismantling Iran’s nuclear ambitions, describing them as misleading.

The former vice president also expressed solidarity with American troops deployed on high-risk assignments, stating that they deserve leadership grounded in steadiness, discipline, and strategic clarity when making decisions on war and peace.

Emphasising constitutional provisions, Harris stressed that the president must secure congressional authorisation before committing the nation to war. She maintained that even if such approval were granted, the proposed military action would remain unjustified and imprudent.

Calling for legislative intervention, Harris urged Congress to exercise its полном powers to check further escalation, asserting that Americans, U.S. allies, and members of the armed forces “deserve nothing less.”
