The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has dismissed a widely circulated notice claiming that the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) has been postponed, describing it as false and misleading.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the board clarified that the alleged press release did not originate from its office and urged candidates and the general public to ignore it.
“Our attention has been drawn to a malicious press release stating that the 2026 UTME has been postponed. The public, particularly candidates, should note that this information is fake and did not emanate from us. All activities for the 2026 UTME will proceed as scheduled,” the statement read.
JAMB reaffirmed that the main UTME is slated to take place from April 16 to April 25, 2026, as previously announced.
The clarification comes shortly after the conduct of the 2026 UTME mock examination held on March 28. The board disclosed that while 224,597 candidates registered for the mock exercise, only 152,586 were able to sit for the test across 989 Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres nationwide due to technical challenges encountered in some locations.
According to JAMB, over 20 CBT centres that experienced technical issues have since been delisted for failing to meet operational standards.
The board also warned candidates against falling victim to fraudulent schemes, particularly on WhatsApp, where some individuals claim they can manipulate or inflate examination scores.
JAMB described such claims as false and criminal, stressing that any candidate found engaging in such activities risks severe penalties, including cancellation of registration or withholding of results.
The board reiterated its commitment to maintaining the integrity of the examination process and ensuring that all candidates are assessed fairly under transparent and credible conditions.
