Mansoureh Khojasteh Bagherzadeh, wife of Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has died in Tehran after reportedly succumbing to injuries sustained during a joint United States–Israeli military strike.
Iranian state media announced her death on Monday, stating that the 79-year-old had been in a coma since Saturday following a large-scale aerial campaign that targeted multiple strategic locations in and around the Iranian capital. The coordinated strikes, attributed to the United States and Israel, reportedly killed her husband and several senior Iranian officials.
According to Iranian outlets, Bagherzadeh suffered critical injuries during the bombardment and had been receiving intensive medical care prior to her death. Authorities have not released detailed medical records but described her condition as “severe” in the days preceding the announcement.
Born in Mashhad, Iran, Bagherzadeh married Khamenei in 1965, years before he rose to national prominence. Over the course of more than three decades as the spouse of Iran’s highest-ranking political and religious authority, she maintained a relatively low public profile but was regarded as an influential figure within the country’s clerical establishment.
Her death marks another significant development in the rapidly escalating conflict that has gripped the region since the reported killing of Khamenei. The strikes have intensified geopolitical tensions across the Middle East, with diplomatic fallout and security concerns mounting.
Observers note that the loss of both the Supreme Leader and his wife within days of each other is likely to have profound political and symbolic implications for Iran’s leadership structure and internal stability. Further official statements from Tehran are expected as the situation continues to unfold.
