Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has declared that Nigerians should not apologise for seeking assistance from the international community in tackling the nation’s lingering insecurity, stressing that lives are being lost daily across religious, ethnic, and political lines.
Obasanjo made this known on Friday night while speaking at the ongoing Plateau Unity Christmas Carols and Praise Festival in Jos. He called on the Federal Government to urgently deploy modern technology to curb killings across the country, insisting that no criminal should be beyond the reach of security agencies.
He said that in this age of technology, it is unacceptable for perpetrators of violent crimes to remain untraced, adding that during his time in office, security authorities had the ability to track and apprehend suspects once they were identified.
According to him, every Nigerian life matters, whether Christian, Muslim, or traditional worshipper, and the continued loss of innocent lives must not be allowed to persist. He maintained that Nigeria has the right to seek international partnerships if domestic efforts prove inadequate, noting that the protection of lives must remain the highest national priority.
Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, also addressed the gathering and expressed confidence that the country would overcome its current challenges. He assured citizens that those seeking to destabilise Nigeria would not succeed.
Mutfwang explained that the annual carol service was conceived to unite the people of Plateau in worship and thanksgiving, adding that unity remains the strongest weapon against insecurity. The event featured several dignitaries and gospel music ministrations from renowned artistes and church choirs.
