The Nigeria Police Force has condemned the deadly attack that occurred on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, which reportedly left 75 people dead.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Acting ACP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, conveyed his condolences to the families of the victims, as well as to the government and people of Kwara State.
Reaffirming the Force’s constitutional mandate, the statement emphasized that the police remain resolute in their responsibility to safeguard lives and property across the country.
In response to the incident, the IGP ordered the immediate deployment of tactical, operational, and intelligence units to Kaiama and adjoining communities. The objective, according to the police, is to restore calm, reinforce security presence, and prevent any further attacks.
The Force also announced the launch of an extensive manhunt for those responsible. Investigations are ongoing, with security agencies mobilizing all available resources to ensure that the perpetrators and any accomplices are identified, apprehended, and prosecuted.
The police called on residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible and timely information through the nearest police formation or designated communication channels.
Hundeyin reiterated the Force’s assurance that those behind the attack would be brought to justice, stressing that the perpetrators “will not escape the long arm of the law.”
