Former Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has alleged that he could be arrested at any moment by the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government.
El-Rufai, who is now aligned with the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC), made the claim during an interview with BBC Hausa on Wednesday. He accused the ruling APC of exerting pressure on political figures to either defect to the party or remain loyal to it.
According to him, several of his former associates in Kaduna State have already been detained. “Four people we worked with in Kaduna have been arrested; so it’s only a matter of time before they come for me too,” he said.
The former governor has, in recent months, become increasingly critical of President Bola Tinubu’s administration and the APC, the party under which he served two terms as Kaduna State governor. His comments signal a deepening rift between him and the ruling party.
El-Rufai suggested that the current political climate is marked by intimidation and coercion, alleging that opposition figures are being targeted. While he did not provide specific details regarding the arrests of his associates, he maintained that the actions were politically motivated.
His remarks come amid broader political tensions and align with the recent arrest and ongoing trial of former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, a development that has generated significant public and political debate.
As of the time of reporting, there has been no official response from the Federal Government or the APC regarding El-Rufai’s allegations.
