Operatives of the Kano State Hisbah Board have intercepted a large consignment of alcoholic beverages reportedly being transported into the state.
The interception occurred during a routine patrol along major entry routes into Kano, where Hisbah officials stopped vehicles suspected of carrying prohibited items. Upon inspection, cartons of assorted alcoholic drinks were discovered concealed in the vehicles.
Officials of the Hisbah Board said the action was part of ongoing efforts to enforce the state laws prohibiting the sale and consumption of alcohol. They stressed that such operations are aimed at promoting moral values and maintaining public order in line with Kano State regulations.
The drivers involved were taken in for questioning, while the seized items were confiscated pending further action. Authorities warned transporters and traders against attempting to smuggle banned items into the state.
Residents have expressed mixed reactions, with some commending the enforcement of the law and others calling for greater public education to prevent repeated violations.
