Armed men have abducted an unconfirmed number of students and teachers from St. Mary’s School in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area, early Friday morning.
Eyewitnesses report that the gunmen attacked the school between 2:00 a.m. and 3:00 a.m., forcibly taking pupils and staff from the premises. Local authorities say the number of abducted persons is still being verified, with estimates ranging from dozens to over 100.
The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the incident and said security forces are on the ground, working to rescue the victims and apprehend the perpetrators. The Head of Disaster & Relief, Agwara LGA, also confirmed the attack and called for calm as operations continue.
This incident adds to a growing pattern of school abductions in Niger State, where armed groups frequently target educational institutions, raising serious concerns about the safety of students and staff.
