AWKA – The Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has extended his warmest greetings to the Christian community within the state and across the federation as they gather to celebrate Christmas and the approaching New Year.
In a festive message released on Thursday, the Governor described Christmas as the ultimate symbol of hope, peace, and redemption, principles he believes are essential for the progress of both the state and the nation.
Embodying the Spirit of Christ
Through a statement issued by his Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, Governor Soludo urged the faithful to move beyond mere celebrations and embrace the practical virtues of the season. He emphasised that the true meaning of the holiday lies in compassion and selflessness.
“This season is a profound call to reflect on the teachings of Christ,” the Governor remarked. “I encourage everyone to practise the true essence of Christmas by extending generosity to those around them, particularly the most vulnerable and less privileged members of our society.”
He further noted that by sharing blessings with those in despair, citizens can strengthen the social bonds that unite them as one people.
Promoting ‘Onwa D’zemba’ and State Security
In addition to the spiritual focus of the holiday, the Governor invited residents and visitors to participate in “Onwa D’zemba”, a specially curated programme of festive events designed to showcase the cultural vibrancy of Anambra.
Addressing concerns over safety during the high-traffic festive period, Soludo offered a firm reassurance to the public:
-
Security: The state government has implemented measures to ensure a safe and secure environment for all residents and tourists.
-
Stability: The Governor pledged that his administration remains committed to maintaining order throughout the holidays and into 2026.
A Call for National Prayer
Governor Soludo concluded by asking the clergy and the laity to remember Nigeria in their prayers. He called for divine intercession for the nation’s peace and prosperity, specifically seeking “divine wisdom” for leaders at all levels to navigate the challenges facing the country.
Wishing the people a “Merry Christmas of abundant blessings,” the Governor expressed his hope that the New Year would bring renewed health and the fulfilment of national dreams.
