The Government of Ghana led by President John Dramani Mahama has called on the administration of President Samia Suluhu Hassan of Tanzania to confront rising concerns about impunity and to strengthen respect for constitutional order.
Ghana issued the message through an official diplomatic communication which emphasised the need for accountability, justice, and the protection of civil rights.
The statement urged the Tanzanian Government to ensure that its security agencies adhere to internationally recognised standards of conduct.
Ghana said that the security forces must remain mindful of their obligations under both domestic and international law.
The call follows reports of unrest and allegations of excessive force during engagements between security personnel and protesters in Tanzania.
Ghana reaffirmed its position that effective policing must be balanced with fundamental human rights.
It stressed that the protection of protesters and the provision of clear accountability mechanisms are essential to maintaining democratic stability.
The government also reiterated that constitutional governance must be upheld as the foundation of peace and public trust.
The communication highlighted Ghana’s belief that responsible leadership requires transparency and respect for due process.
It encouraged Tanzania to take steps that will reinforce confidence in state institutions and demonstrate commitment to international democratic standards.
The Tanzanian Government has not yet issued a formal public response.
However, diplomatic observers note that Ghana’s intervention reflects growing regional concern about governance practices and the treatment of civilians during political demonstrations.
