President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has acknowledged the growing hardship caused by rising fuel prices and has initiated measures aimed at cushioning the impact on Nigerians.

This was disclosed during the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations in Dutse by the Governor of Jigawa State, Umar Namadi, who addressed residents shortly after receiving the Emir of Dutse and other traditional leaders at the Hawan Bariki Durbar.

According to the governor, the president is deeply concerned about the pressure the increase in petroleum prices has placed on citizens, particularly in the areas of transportation and overall cost of living. He noted that the recent surge in fuel prices, linked to ongoing developments in the Middle East, has further intensified economic challenges across the country.

Namadi assured that the Federal Government is not indifferent to the situation, stressing that President Tinubu has already directed relevant authorities to implement measures to ease the burden. He explained that a key focus of the intervention would be reducing transportation costs, which have risen sharply following the fuel price hike.

“The President is aware of the burden this increase will place on Nigerians and has already begun taking steps to reduce the impact, especially in the area of transportation,” he said.

The governor further revealed that part of the strategy includes exploring alternative solutions aimed at lowering transport expenses nationwide. He added that the Jigawa State Government would complement federal efforts through policies and support programmes designed to cushion the economic strain on residents.

Namadi emphasized that although the current situation remains challenging, coordinated interventions by both federal and state governments are expected to bring relief and help stabilize living conditions.

The development comes amid growing public concern over the ripple effects of rising fuel prices on transportation, food costs, and other essential services across Nigeria.
