A deadly attack occurred on Wednesday in Tor-Damisa community, Donga Local Government Area of Taraba State, leaving seven people dead, including three police officers and four civilians. The violence is believed to have been carried out by gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen.

According to eyewitnesses, the armed assailants stormed the community in the evening, opening fire sporadically, which sparked panic among residents. Security operatives from the Taraba State Police Command quickly responded, leading to a fierce gunfight between the herdsmen and law enforcement personnel.

Sources familiar with the incident confirmed that three police officers lost their lives while attempting to repel the attackers. Four civilians were also killed during the raid, with several others reportedly injured. The violent confrontation has left the community in shock and fear, prompting many residents to flee to neighboring towns in search of safety.

Local authorities have heightened security measures in the aftermath of the attack. However, attempts to obtain official statements from the Taraba State Police Command were unsuccessful, as the Police Public Relations Officer did not respond to calls or messages seeking clarification.

The attack adds to the rising tension in parts of Taraba State, where clashes involving herdsmen have been increasingly reported in recent years. These incidents have often resulted in loss of life, destruction of property, and displacement of residents, exacerbating existing security challenges in the region.

Community leaders have called for urgent intervention from state and federal authorities to address the security situation and prevent further bloodshed. Residents are urging the government to strengthen local security, provide protection for vulnerable communities, and ensure that perpetrators of such attacks are brought to justice.

As the investigation continues, the people of Tor-Damisa remain on edge, wary of potential follow-up attacks. The deadly raid underscores the ongoing security concerns in Nigeria’s rural areas and the persistent threat posed by armed herdsmen to both civilians and law enforcement personnel.
