The Federal Government of Nigeria has reopened completed sections of the Enugu Onitsha Road, a major transport corridor in the South East, in a bid to ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity. Road infrastructure plays a critical role in facilitating trade, mobility and economic activities.

Officials from the Federal Ministry of Works confirmed that sections of the highway that have undergone rehabilitation are now accessible to motorists, even as construction continues on other parts of the road.

The Enugu Onitsha Road is a key route linking commercial hubs in the region, and its poor condition had previously caused delays, increased transportation costs and posed safety risks to road users.

Observers note that infrastructure development remains a priority for the government, given its impact on economic growth and regional integration.

Stakeholders, including transport operators and business owners, have welcomed the reopening, noting that it will reduce travel time and improve the movement of goods and services.

Experts highlight that sustained investment in road maintenance is essential to prevent deterioration and ensure long term benefits.

The development underscores ongoing efforts to upgrade Nigeria’s transport infrastructure and enhance economic activities.

Analysts believe that completing the remaining sections of the road will further boost trade and improve the overall efficiency of the transport network.
