The Federal Government has dismissed concerns triggered by a recent advisory from the United States Government, which authorised the departure of non-essential staff from its embassy in Abuja, insisting that Nigeria remains safe and stable.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, clarified that the move by the US was a routine precaution based on its internal security protocols and should not be interpreted as a reflection of the general security situation in Nigeria.

According to the minister, public institutions across the country are functioning effectively, with no disruption to governance, economic activities, or daily life. He reassured both citizens and the international community that, despite isolated security challenges in certain areas, there is no widespread breakdown of law and order.

Idris highlighted ongoing efforts by security agencies to combat threats, noting that coordinated military operations, intelligence-led strategies, and improved collaboration among agencies have continued to yield positive results. He explained that recent interventions have disrupted criminal networks, weakened armed groups, and enhanced safety in vulnerable communities.

“Our security forces remain fully committed to protecting lives and property, and the progress recorded so far is encouraging,” he stated.

The government also reaffirmed Nigeria’s openness to global engagement, describing the country as a viable destination for investment, tourism, and business activities. Idris noted that recent economic reforms are strengthening investor confidence and improving Nigeria’s standing among international partners.

While acknowledging the right of countries to issue travel advisories based on their assessments, the Federal Government urged foreign missions and stakeholders to rely on accurate, balanced, and up-to-date information. It encouraged continued engagement with Nigerian authorities to gain a clearer understanding of the situation on ground.

Reiterating its commitment to national security, the government assured residents and visitors alike that efforts to sustain peace and stability would remain a top priority, emphasizing that Nigeria continues to be a safe and welcoming environment.
