The Federal Government has elevated nineteen officers of the Nigerian Foreign Service to the rank of Ambassadors-in-Situ, marking a major milestone in their diplomatic careers.
In a statement on Monday, Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Kimiebi Ebienfa said the investiture recognizes the officers’ dedication, professionalism, and contributions to advancing Nigeria’s foreign policy objectives. The rank of Ambassador carries added responsibilities, including safeguarding Nigeria’s international image and enhancing the standards of the diplomatic service.
The nineteen officers earned the title following their promotion to the rank of Deputy Director in the Federal Civil Service. Speaking on behalf of the honourees, Ambassador Suleiman Mohammed Ousman expressed gratitude to the Ministry and the Federal Government, pledging that the newly invested ambassadors would continue to serve with integrity, commitment, and professionalism in the nation’s interest.
In his remarks, Permanent Secretary Ambassador Dunoma Umar Ahmed, PhD, congratulated the officers, urging them to uphold the highest standards of diplomacy. He noted that their elevation comes at a critical time for Nigeria’s engagement with the international community.
The investiture ceremony was presided over by the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, OON, and attended by senior government officials, public office holders, and distinguished guests.
