The Federal Government has debunked a viral message circulating across social media claiming that all schools nationwide would be shut down from November 24, 2025. In a statement on Saturday, the Federal Ministry of Education described the message as false, misleading, and capable of causing unnecessary panic among students, parents, and school administrators.
According to the ministry’s spokesperson, Folasade Boriowo, no such directive was issued by the Federal Government, any State Ministry of Education, or any recognised security agency. She clarified that the ministry remains committed to ensuring the safety of learners across the country, but added that all verified instructions on school operations will always be released through official channels.
The ministry urged the public to disregard the fake circular and warned against the spread of unverified information, noting that misinformation can create public fear and disrupt academic activities. Nigerians were advised to rely solely on announcements from the Federal Ministry of Education, State Ministries of Education, and authorised security bodies.
Officials further explained that while there are isolated closures of schools in certain high-risk areas due to ongoing security concerns, these actions do not amount to a nationwide shutdown. They reassured the public that the government is monitoring the security situation closely and will continue to take targeted measures where necessary to protect students and staff.
The Federal Government reiterated its commitment to maintaining stable academic operations and called for cooperation from citizens in combating the spread of false information.
